Match your ceremony and venue: traditional venues and religious ceremonies call for formal wording, while a barn or festival-style wedding suits something more relaxed. The generator offers both traditional and modern styles so you can compare side by side.
Traditional format names the hosts first ('Mr and Mrs Smith request the pleasure of…'). For modern etiquette, include whoever is hosting or contributing — and if it's genuinely joint, wording like 'Together with their families' covers everyone gracefully.
The clearest approach is naming it explicitly: 'Mr Tom Jones and Guest' on the envelope, or a line in the invitation. Ambiguity here generates more emailed questions than any other wording issue — be specific on each invitation.
Send save-the-dates around six months before (sooner for destination weddings), and the formal invitations around three months out. Include an RSVP deadline four to six weeks before the wedding to leave room for chase-ups and final numbers.
